It seems like we just started, but the college football regular season is winding down across the Old North State. Here are most intriguing match-ups for week 10 of the season:

1. Mars Hill at Tusculum: This showdown determines the Mountain Division champion in the D2 South Atlantic Conference – and which team will play in the league title game. Mars Hill won 34-27 a year ago. Tusculum will be tough; they beat Wingate earlier in the year.

2. Catawba at Lenoir-Rhyne: The Bears (8-1) can officially clinch the D2 South Atantic Piedmont division crown by beating a familiar rival. Catawba, a pass-happy squad this season, unleashed an amazingly effective run game a week ago.

3. Miami at NC State: Can the gritty Wolfpack keep it going after knocking off Clemson? Will Steve Smith be on the NCSU sidelines?

4. Elon at Delaware: The Phoenix (4-1 in the CAA) strive to be giant-killers again, facing a Blue Hens team (5-0 CAA) that is ranked No. 5/6 in the two major FCS polls. Elon knocked off William & Mary when the Tribe was ranked that high in September.

5. Huntingdon at Brevard: The Tornados are the last remaining unbeaten in the (Division III) USA South Conference standings but face a stiff challenge from an Alabama foe this Saturday.

6. Livingstone at Johnson C. Smith: Two of the most improved teams in the CIAA clash, with the winner putting a nice exclamation point on a fulfilling season.

7. Wingate at Newberry: The Bulldogs, fresh off an upset of the top team in the South Atlantic Conference, look to take down the 2022 champions on the road.

8. Winston-Salem State at Fayetteville State: Can the Rams take a chink out of the Broncos armor before FSU heads to Salem, Virginia for the CIAA title game? Seven other teams have tried. No one has done it so far.

9. Shaw at St. Augustine’s: The CIAA regular season takes a bow with Raleigh’s two HBCU rivals squaring off. Shaw won in double overtime a year ago. St. Augustine’s would love to finish this season getting its first win.

10. Marshall at Appalachian State: Another Sun Belt rivalry game for the Mountaineers. Neither team is having the season they would have hoped for but it looks like another sold-out crowd will be on hand to root on App State’s quest to return to a bowl game. Gotta have this one.
