Richmond picked up a big addition from one of North Carolina’s most talent-rich independent high school programs this weekend. Linebacker Quintin McCray, a 6-foot, 215-pound junior from Providence Day, has committed to the Spiders after racking up a long list of FCS and Group of Five offers.

McCray is coming off a standout season for the 2024 NCISAA state runners-up, posting 122 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. He also saw time on offense, punching in two rushing touchdowns for the Chargers, who finished 9-3 under head coach Chad Grier.

Off the field, McCray carries a 3.8 GPA and earned a spot in the 704 Junior Bowl as well as All-State and All-Conference honors. He drew interest from multiple FBS programs, including Charlotte and Miami (OH), and logged FCS offers from Delaware State, Bryant, Gardner-Webb and West Georgia, among others.

In the weight room, McCray has posted eye-popping numbers: 305 bench, 425 squat, 300 power clean.

He becomes the fourth Providence Day junior to make a college commitment, joining QB Zaid Lott (Syracuse), WR Gordon Sellars (Clemson), and OL Leo Delaney (Clemson).
