Stat Champions: UNCP’s Colin Johnson throws for 514 yards; Catawba’s Bryson Sims earns 15 kicker points

Livingstone’s Jayden Reeder records longest scoring play with 77-yard INT return

Catawba's Bryson Sims, Livingstone's Jayden Reeder and UNC Pembroke's Colin Johnson posted some of the top stat performances of week seven in college football.

UNC Pembroke quarterback Colin Johnson set multiple school passing records, and North Carolina Central’s defense sent Virginia-Lynchburg backwards nearly half a football field in rushing yards.

These were among the statistical highlights for week seven college football games involving North Carolina schools.

Below is a more detailed look at this week’s team and individual statistical champions:

Christian Drumgoole (North Carolina Wesleyan) eclipsed 200 receiving yards for the second time this season

Bryson Sims (Catawba) set a new season’s best for our state with 15 kicker points. Sims made four field goals in a game against Carson-Newman and booted three extra points.

Jesse Veins (Louisburg) was the first player in our state this season to attempt and make nine extra points in a game. Veins also made one field goal to finish with 14 kicker points.



Most Passing Yards

514 – Despite battling a foot injury this season, UNCP’s Colin Johnson unleashed fury with his right arm Saturday in a 67-20 win over West Liberty. Johnson finished 29-of-43 for 514 yards, 7 TDs, 2 INTs

The yardage and TDs are the most in the state this season. The previous best for passing yards had been set by UNC’s Jacolby Criswell (475) against James Madison. Shaw’s Christian Peters and Brevard’s Ethan Beamish had the previous season’s best for passing TDs with five each.

329 – CJ Bailey (NC State): 17-of-24 for 329 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT in a loss to Syracuse.

328 – Jalen Ferguson (Lenoir-Rhyne): 25-of-36 for 328 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT in a win over Newberry.

188 – LJ Turner (Catawba): 38 carries, 188 yards, 2 TDs, 4.9 ypc, long rush of 70 yards in a loss to Limestone

181 – Trevon Hester (Winston-Salem State): 19 carries, 181 yards, 1 TD, 9.5 ypc, long rush of 70 yards in a win over Shaw

152 – Mason Sheron (Davidson): 22 carries, 152 yards, 2 TDs, 6.9 ypc, long rush of 44 yards in a loss at Dayton

239 – Christian Drumgoole (North Carolina Wesleyan): 15 catches for 239 yards, 0 TDs, 15.9 ypc, long reception of 59 yards in a loss to LaGrange. Drumgoole now has the top two receiving performances of the season, earning 17 catches for 258 yards in week three.

151 – Jakobe Lane (Chowan): 11 catches for 151 yards, 2 TDs, 13.7 ypc, long reception of 39 yards in a win over Shorter
