Each week, NC Football News tracks the Statewide Standings, the win-loss records of all 35 college football programs in the Old North State.
As has been the case for awhile, Lenoir-Rhyne (9-1) and North Carolina Central (8-1) lead the pack with the best records in the state. The Bears from the Division II South Atlantic Conference shook off their first loss in late October by beating Catawba 28-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles from the FCS rolled through another MEAC foe, beating Norfolk State 38-24 on homecoming.
Some other notes after Week 10 of the season:
Fayetteville State now has the longest active winning stream among North Carolina schools. The Broncos earned their eighth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, taking a thrilling overtime contest against Winston-Salem State, 40-34. Davidson’s win streak hit seven with a high-scoring 61-41 triumph at Stetson. Hard to believe both teams were once 0-2.
Johnson C. Smith earned its seventh win (not in a row) in its CIAA finale, topping Livingstone. The Golden Bulls haven’t won this many games in a season since the early 2000s.
All three Triangle FBS teams – NC State, North Carolina and Duke – are now bowl eligible. The Wolfpack and Blue Devils earned their sixth wins this week. The Wolfpack’s last two victories have come against two of the top brands in the ACC, Clemson and Miami. North Carolina got bowl eligible before hitting its two-game losing skid. The Heels got back into the win column Saturday against Campbell.
Gardner-Webb and Elon both jumped back on the positive side of .500. Both teams have just one loss in their respective FCS conferences and still harbor league title hopes heading into the home stretch.
There are 17 total teams with winning records and one more at .500 after this week. We still have three schools without a victory and three more schools with just one ‘W’.
