The Greensboro College football team will open its 2025 season the way it usually does — with the annual Soup Bowl against city rival Guilford.
The season-opening contest will take place Sept. 6 – under the lights this season – at Guilford’s Armfield Athletic Center, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
The Pride will be looking to snap an eight-game losing streak in the rivalry. Guilford posted a 14-0 win last season and leads the all-time series 16-8. Greensboro’s last win in the Soup Bowl came back in 2012 — a narrow 14-13 victory.
Week two brings a matchup with a newly launched program, as Greensboro will host Roanoke College on Sept. 13. The Maroons are back at the varsity level in 2025 for the first time since 1942 after fielding a club team last year.
Week three features a tough non-conference trip to Maryville, which is coming off a 9-2 season and a playoff victory in 2024. Maryville, located in Tennessee, has since joined the Southern Athletic Association after leaving the USA South.
After the opening non-conference stretch, Greensboro will play seven USA South games, including three against in-state league rivals. The Pride will host conference games against Huntingdon, Brevard, LaGrange and Methodist while traveling to Southern Virginia, Belhaven and North Carolina Wesleyan.
The final stretch of the season could offer a boost in home fan energy — Greensboro will close with two home games in its final three weeks, including a Nov. 15 Senior Day matchup with Methodist.
The Pride finished 1-9 in 2024 and 1-7 in league play, but had a strong showing in the conference awards. Seven players earned all-conference recognition, led by record-setting senior linebacker Max Steele. Steele notched 80 tackles and broke Greensboro’s all-time tackles record, finishing his career with 381 total stops.
Defensive linemen Frank Walker and Deshawn Holman, defensive back JaJuan Givens, return specialist Ja’Shawn Harris, tight end Wes Kidd, and quarterback Josh Sims were also recognized by the USA South. Sims, a sophomore, emerged late in the season and earned Greensboro’s Sportsmanship Award.
Tyler Card has been head coach of the Greensboro program since January 2020.
