Game Day Central: What to Watch This Weekend

The 2026 college football season kicks off with three days of “Week 0” action on Thursday, Aug. 27 through Saturday, Aug. 29. Here are storylines to follow as the full Week 0 schedule emerges:

  • UNC, NC State playing international games (UNC-TCU in Ireland; NCSU-Virginia in Brazil)
  • Wingate visiting UNC Pembroke in marquee in-state D2 game
  • Lenoir-Rhyne hosting Virginia Union in a Friday night rematch of the 2024 playoffs
  • Kris McCullough coaching era at Gardner-Webb kicking off with trip to preseason top-15 Austin Peay
  • Highly anticipated WCU season opening at refurbished Whitmire Stadium (vs. Eastern Kentucky)
