The CIAA football championship will move from Salem, Va. to Durham this season – and so too will the Division II conference’s summer kickoff event.
The league will hold its annual Media Day on Wednesday, July 16 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel RDU Airport, beginning at 9 a.m. The event will bring head coaches and two key players from each of the CIAA’s 11 football-playing schools to preview the upcoming season and answer questions. The preseason All-CIAA Football Team will be released, as well as the predicted order of finish.
“We’re thrilled to kick off another season of CIAA football with our annual Media Day,” CIAA commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker said. “It’s a time to spotlight our talented student-athletes and coaches, and this year, it’s also an exciting opportunity to celebrate Durham as the new home of our football championship and a vital partner in our continued growth.”
The event will be streamed live on the CIAA Sports Network (https://theciaasn.com).
Virginia Union enters the 2025 season as the reigning CIAA champion, besting Virginia State in the final title game in Salem. Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem, State and Fayetteville State will be among those from North Carolina vying to bring the championship trophy, along with the actual title game, back to the Old North State.
