Rolesville High rising junior Amir Brown, one of the top running backs in the Class of 2027, has committed to Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Rivals broke the news Sunday afternoon on social media.
The 5-11, 205-pounder has a four-star rating from the 247Sports Composite. He is listed as the No. 10 overall player from North Carolina from the Class of 2027 and the No. 25 running back nationally. Rivals ranks him ninth in North Carolina and the 20th RB.
Brown helped power Rolesville to a 4A East championship last season and appearance in the 4A state title game. As a sophomore, he rushed for 624 yards and 13 touchdowns. He posted 279 receiving yards and three more TDs.
North Carolina has 35 verbal commits in its 2026 class, including Rolesville High brothers Zavion Griffin-Haynes and Jayden Griffin-Haynes. Brown becomes the second commitment from 2027, joining athlete Skylar Robinson from Gardena, Calif.
Tar Heels beat out elite programs
This is a big recruiting win for Belichick and UNC staff. Brown had a full offer sheet, featuring more than 30 schools. He had Notre Dame, Texas and Penn State among his favorites, according to 247Sports and Rivals. Michigan offered recently. Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, SMU, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Purdue and others extended offers back during the spring.
Brown is part of a power-packed 2027 recruiting class from Rolesville, which also includes three other players inside of 247Sports’ top 10 player rankings:
- Safety Marquis Bryant (7th)
- Edge Jayden Broadie (8th)
- Wide receiver Anthony Roberts (9th).
Brown is the first to commit from this group.
Rolesville, coached by Ranier Rackley, opens the season on Friday, Aug. 22 at Mallard Creek. The following week, the Rams will host private school power Providence Day.
One other 2027 running back from the Raleigh area has announced a commitment. Southeast Raleigh’s Christian Freeman, the No. 18 player in the state for the class, pledged to NC State a month ago.
