Guilford edge rusher/linebacker Travis Burton, the national leader in Division III tackles-for-loss, has announced his intention to transfer after a breakout sophomore season in Greensboro.

Burton was one of the most disruptive D3 football defenders in the country this fall, piling up 26.5 tackles-for-loss across nine games, averaging nearly three stops behind the line per contest. His 12.0 sacks ranked fifth nationally in total sacks and third in sacks per game (1.33). In total, he generated 118 negative yards and finished the year with 81 tackles (35 solo).

The Pikeville native and former C.B. Aycock High School standout has already climbed Guilford’s career record books — fifth all-time in TFLs (31.0) and tied for sixth in sacks (16.0) — after just two seasons. As a true freshman in 2024, he appeared in all 10 games, made 14 tackles, and earned ODAC All-Academic honors.

“Faith and hard work got me here … but I’m still chasing greater,” Burton posted on X earlier this month “Blessed for every opportunity – God’s plan.”
