One of North Carolina D2 football’s most prolific quarterbacks is officially exploring transfer options. Daylin Lee, the long-time face of Winston-Salem State‘s offense, announced Thursday evening that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Lee shared his decision on social media, writing:
“First I would like to thank GOD because without him none of this would be possible. I want to thank WSSU, my coaches, my teammates and the Ramily for everything. With that being said I will be entering my name in the Transfer portal with 1 possibly 2 years of eligibility left.”

His move comes just weeks after head coach Robert Massey resigned after six seasons at the helm of the program. Massey called Lee the “face of the franchise” heading into the 2024 season, and Lee has lived up to that billing across three productive years in the CIAA.

Before arriving at Winston-Salem State, Lee was already a proven winner. He led Shelby High School to the 2021 NCHSAA 2A state championship, throwing five touchdown passes in the title game to lead the Golden Lions past Wallace-Rose Hill 55-34.

2025 Season: Lee’s Best Yet

The 6-4, 190-pound quarterback delivered a strong junior campaign:

  • 149-of-238 passing (62.6%) for 2,043 yards
  • 23 touchdowns, 7 interceptions
  • Added 5 rushing touchdowns
  • Season-high 338 yards and 2 TDs vs Virginia State
  • Four-touchdown games against both Lincoln and Bowie State

Previous Seasons

2024:

  • 1,728 passing yards, 14 TDs, 5 INTs
  • 5 rushing TDs on 155 yards
  • Named CSC Academic All-District

2023 (Freshman):

  • 1,845 yards, 18 TDs, 6 INTs
  • Started all 10 games
  • CIAA Offensive Player of the Week vs JCSU
  • All-CIAA Second Team
  • CIAA Male Scholar of the Year

Career at WSSU

Across three seasons, Lee totaled:

  • 5,616 passing yards
  • 55 passing touchdowns
  • 18 interceptions
  • Averaged 187.2 passing yards per game
  • 15 career rushing TDs

Lee becomes the most accomplished quarterback from our state’s D2 contingent to enter the 2025 portal cycle. His combination of size, experience and production should command serious attention.
