North Carolina high school football reaches another pressure-packed Friday night as the NCHSAA playoffs roll into the semifinals for the 1A and 8A classifications, and the quarterfinals for 2A through 7A. The new eight-classification system has reshaped the postseason, but many of the state’s heavyweights have navigated the bracket and are still alive.
Every No. 1 seed but one has survived to this round, including three of last year’s champions: Grimsley (last year’s 4A winner now competing in 7A), West Charlotte (3A in 2024 and 8A now), and Tarboro (1A last season, 2A this year). With every game tightening and every possession magnified, tonight’s matchups will set the stage for a dramatic sprint to Championship Weekend.
