Wingate holds off Barton for 38-24 triumph

The Wingate University Bulldogs got 275 passing yards from Brooks Bentley and 163 receiving yards from Tremel Jones en route to a 38-24 victory at Barton College in South Atlantic Conference football action Saturday afternoon. Wingate improves to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the SAC, while Barton falls to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.

KEY STATS

– Wingate had 275 passing yards and 204 rushing yards for a season-best 479 total yards
– Barton had 292 passing yards and 92 rushing yards for 349 total yards
– The ‘Dogs held a 25-14 advantage in first downs
– WU went nine-for-14 on third down; BC was four-for-11
– Wingate held the ball for over 36 minutes on the day
– Barton threw a pair of interceptions; WU fumbled five times, losing three
– Wingate had two of the three sacks on the day

– Bentley was 16-for-21 with 275 yards and three touchdowns, adding 39 rushing yards
– Jones hauled in seven catches for 163 yards and a TD
– Four different Bulldogs had over 35 rushing yards
– O’Brien Barnett ran for 64 yards and a TD, adding a 10-yard reception
– Ethan Wallace had nine carries for 44 yards and a score
– Corey Siemer added 38 yards on 11 carries
– Evan McCray collected two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown
– Matt Flanders also hauled in a TD catch
– Dequan Mosley had nine tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss
– Khalil Saunders and Roe Chitwood added seven and six tackles, respectively
– Dontorian Best and Daniel Morrison each registered a sack
– Jaden White and Tavarus Short each notched an interception
– Kyron Thomas had four kick returns for 102 yards with a long of 38
– Caleb Bonestell made all five PATs and a 36-yard field goal
