Carolina Wednesday Update: The Panthers opened the week with several starters on the injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against Detroit. Carolina held a walkthrough Wednesday, so participation levels were estimates. Safety Nick Scott and linebacker Devin Lloyd were listed as full participants after missing last week’s game, while four offensive starters – Jalen Coker, Xavier Legette, Damien Lewis and Monroe Freeling – were among the players who did not participate.

Lions 31, Jets 24 (Sept. 27) – Running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while making seven catches for 65 yards and another score in Detroit’s second win. Panthers return to Sunday Night Football
Sunday will mark Carolina’s first appearance on Sunday Night Football since 2016, ending a decade-long absence from NBC’s prime-time showcase. The Panthers are 5-10 all-time on Sunday Night Football, including a 4-4 record at home.
Carolina has enjoyed plenty of success against Detroit in Charlotte. The Panthers are 6-1 at home in the series and have won the last two meetings at Bank of America Stadium, including a 37-23 victory in 2022 when Carolina rushed for 320 yards, led by D’Onta Foreman’s 165 yards and Chuba Hubbard’s 125 yards.
A tough week for Panthers to lose two cornerbacks

Carolina’s run defense faces another major challenge Sunday against Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The Panthers have allowed 193.3 rushing yards per game through three weeks, while Gibbs has rushed for 307 yards — averaging 4.7 yards per carry — with four touchdowns.
Detroit is averaging 120.7 rushing yards per game, but Gibbs provides the kind of explosive threat that could be particularly troublesome for a Carolina defense that has struggled to get opponents off schedule on the ground.
