We here at North Carolina Football News love our stats and spreadsheets. We’re scanning all of the box scores from our state’s college teams each week and noting the longest plays and top performers.
One of the categories we track is Longest Punt of the season. After two weeks, Elizabeth City State’s Darius Satterfield has set the standard in the Old North State. He boomed a 69-yarder in Saturday’s 12-9 win over visiting Chowan.
Satterfield from Mebane (Orange HS), punted four times in the victory, averaging 46 yards per kick. He hit a 54-yarder late in the second quarter that pinned Chowan back at its nine yard line.
Satterfield’s 69-yarder came in the third quarter with ECSU backed up at its own 11. He flipped the field, and Chowan had to start its next drive at its own 25. The Hawks went three-and-out.
Satterfield did take a safety late in the fourth quarter but it was a lead-protection play. Elizabeth City State had just made a goal-line stand to thwart a Chowan go-ahead touchdown in the final minute. When the Vikings couldn’t run out the clock, they opted to give up two points and kick to Chowan.
The Hawks missed a 38-yard field goal as time expired that would have forced overtime, and Elizabeth City State improved to 1-1 on the season.

Seth Bowen (UNC Pembroke): 63-yarder at Fayetteville State, week two
