Elon’s Kevin Burkett voted CAA football’s top scholar-athlete

Senior becomes third Phoenix player to receive the league award

Elon senior captain Kevin Burkett nabbed the 2024 CAA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, the league announced Wednesday.

Burkett (Gatlinburg, Tenn. | Gatlinburg-Pittman HS) is the third Phoenix player to win the award, following Matt Foster (2019) and Davis Cheek (2020). 

A 3.34 GPA engineering major, Burkett started all but one of his 45 career games, earning 2024 All-CAA First Team honors as FCS’s top pass-protecting lineman (per PFF). He began 2024 at center before shifting to left tackle.

Off the field, he’s researched water quality and accessibility for the visually impaired, studied abroad in Costa Rica, and led community service. Burkett’s $1,000 scholarship will fuel his master’s plans.
