Armanti Edwards was the dynamic starting quarterback for the 2006 squad, which scored 528 points. Running back Kevin Richardson scored four touchdowns in the 2006 title game, a 28-17 win over UMass.

Weather could be a factor again
Appalachian Stateβs home game against Charlotte on Sept. 19 was delayed for several hours due to storms and lightning. The contest started after 9 p.m. and ended at 12:32 a.m.
With a tropical system expected to venture north from the Gulf over the weekend, weather could again play a role. The matchup remains on schedule to start at 1 p.m., but effects from the storm could bring periods of heavy rain to Boone and Western North Carolina on Saturday.
Home, sweet home
Appalachian State has yet to leave the state of North Carolina for game action. The Mountaineers opened at home against Maine over Labor Day weekend, played at East Carolina, hosted Charlotte and then traveled to NC State during September.
App State will finally venture out of the state β but not very far β next Friday night against Coastal Carolina from Conway, SC.
