Duke visits Illinois in a non-conference FBS football matchup during the 2026 season.

Duke takes a five-game winning streak on the road Saturday when the Blue Devils visit Illinois for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Gies Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Both teams opened the 2026 campaign with victories this past weekend and enter the matchup as two of the Power Four’s winningest programs over the past two seasons (believe it or not!).

Illinois is roughly a touchdown favorite in a rematch of last year’s 45-19 Illini victory in Durham.

πŸ₯ Duke-Illinois Player Availability

Illinois: Starting right guard Brandon Henderson will not play Saturday because of a lower-leg injury. Illinois coach Bret Bielema said Henderson could miss anywhere from two to six weeks. Henderson is the Illini’s only returning starter on the offensive line.

Wide receiver Jayshon Platt also will not play against Duke. Linebacker Daniel Brown could return, with Bielema saying Monday there is a chance Brown will be available.

Duke: Reserve offensive lineman Roman Fina is out for the season. No new injury information was announced earlier in the week.

πŸ” What to Know About the Duke at Illinois Football Game

πŸ”₯ Two of the Power Four’s winningest programs, seriously

Duke and Illinois have quietly become two of the Power Four’s winningest programs in recent years. Illinois has won 20 games since the start of the 2024 season, while Duke has won 19.

The Illini are coming off consecutive nine-win seasons for the first time in program history, while Duke won nine games in both 2024 and 2025, just the second time the Blue Devils have accomplished that feat in consecutive seasons.

πŸƒ Nate Sheppard coming off monster opener

Nate Sheppard enters as one of the nation’s hottest running backs. The Duke running back rushed for 227 yards against Tulane, the fifth-highest single-game total in program history and the most by an FBS player in a game so far this season.

Sheppard has averaged 131.8 rushing yards over his last five games with six touchdowns during that stretch.

πŸ”΅ Duke takes five-game winning streak on road

The Blue Devils own the longest active winning streak among North Carolina’s college football teams, dating back to last season. Duke closed 2025 with four straight victories, including an ACC championship victory over Virginia and a bowl win against Arizona State before beating Tulane 17-3 in this year’s opener. Saturday will be Duke’s first road game of 2026.

πŸ”Ά Illinois has been explosive early

The Illini scored 42 points while running just 43 offensive plays in their season-opening win over UAB, averaging 7.7 yards per play. Quarterback Katin Houser, who transferred to Illinois from ECU, completed 13 of 17 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
