Elon made a late addition to its 2026 football schedule, adding Division II Glenville State as its season opener. The Phoenix will host the Mountain East Conference foe on Thursday, Aug. 27 under the lights at Rhodes Stadium – the team’s only non-Saturday game.

🔍 What to Watch
Elon lost starters from virtually every position group to the portal, with multiple all-conference performers transferring to FBS and Power 4 programs. An early tune-up against a D2 opponent – Glenville State finished 6-5 a year ago – should help the Phoenix break in newcomers on both sides of the ball.
Elon last played a D2 opponent in 2016 when the Phoenix beat Fayetteville State 26-3. The Phoenix have never played Glenville State in football.
This will be the earliest season opener for Elon since 2020.
Elon has been picked to finish third in the CAA behind reigning champ Rhode Island and Monmouth. Linebacker Brodie Carroll and placekicker Luke Barnes have received national watch-list attention and preseason all-conference honors.
