North Carolina A&T and Campbell arrived in the CAA together in 2023, and both have been looking for their first big breakthrough in their new league. The budding in-state rivals collide again Saturday night in Buies Creek with conference play beginning for both teams.
It will be the fourth meeting between the Aggies and Camels since they CAA partners, and the fifth consecutive season they’ve played overall.
Campbell (2-1) enters with FCS victories over ETSU and Western Carolina, while North Carolina A&T (0-3) is searching for its first victory since beating the Camels 28-24 last October.
The teams kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium, with the game streaming on FloCollege.

Campbell is getting some national attention
Despite last week’s loss at Florida, the Camels are receiving votes in both the FCS Stats Perform and AFCA coaches polls. Campbell is effectively No. 28 in the Stats Perform voting, the highest of any North Carolina FCS program. The Camels are 2-1, with FCS victories over ETSU and Western Carolina.
Elijah Kennedy will be one to watch
North Carolina A&T’s Elijah Kennedy was one of the stars of last year’s 28-24 comeback victory over Campbell, returning a punt 96 yards and a kickoff 85 yards for touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Kennedy remains a major weapon for the Aggies. He caught seven passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns against North Carolina Central last week and finished with 189 all-purpose yards on 13 touches.
Conference play begins for both teams
Saturday’s game is the CAA opener for both teams. Campbell was picked eighth in the conference’s preseason poll, while North Carolina A&T was picked 12th in the 13-team league.
NC A&T still looking for its first win
The Aggies have not won a game since defeating the Camels 28-24 last October. NC A&T finished the 2025 season on a four-game losing skid and is 0-3 to start this season.

🔎 What the Numbers Say
A&T has struggled to score. The Aggies are averaging just 13.0 points per game and have scored only five touchdowns in three games. They’ve been held to 7, 10 and 22 points. Campbell, by comparison, averages 26.7 points and scored 49 against ETSU and 28 against Western Carolina before being held to three by Florida.
The A&T running game has struggled to get untracked. The Aggies have long been a rushing powerhouse but they have averaged only 91.3 rushing yards per game and 2.9 yards per carry so far this season. Campbell isn’t an overwhelming rushing offense, but its 143.7 yards per game and 4.5 per attempt are considerably better.
Campbell has moved the ball much better than A&T. The Camels average 417.3 yards per game to A&T’s 299.3, and Kamden Sixkiller has already thrown for 800 yards. Campbell is averaging nearly 274 passing yards per game.
But Campbell’s defense has been very hittable through the air. Opponents are averaging 333.0 passing yards and completing 70.1% of their passes against the Camels. They’ve produced 999 passing yards and six touchdowns in three games. That’s a potential opening for an A&T passing game that showed some life against North Carolina Central.
A&T has been solid on third down. Despite all the offensive struggles, the Aggies have converted 47.8% of their third downs (22 of 46). Campbell is at only 35.4%. Defensively, Campbell has been excellent getting off the field, holding opponents to 29.4% on third down.
Elijah Kennedy is A&T’s most productive all-around weapon. Beyond leading the Aggies with 152 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns, Kennedy has 401 all-purpose yards, more than twice as many as any other A&T player. That includes 180 kick-return yards and 62 punt-return yards. He earned FCS conference and national honors a season ago.
Neither defense has been especially stingy overall. A&T allows 402.7 yards and 35.3 points per game. Campbell allows an even larger 456.3 yards and 36.0 points per game. Both schools have played one FBS opponent that somewhat skews the numbers.
