What We’re Watching Today
Weather will be a factor: Remnants of Isaias are tracking through North Carolina and parts of the southeast. That could bring steady/heavy rain and windy conditions, with particular impacts in the Duke at Georgia Tech and ODU at App State games.
Historic rivalry, big stakes: Wake Forest and NC State play in one of the longest continuous college football rivalries in FBS. This year’s game will have significant impact on the ACC standings and the race to Charlotte.
Can the Heels break through? UNC is improved in year two under Bill Belichick but still lacks a signature win during his tenure. Beating a ranked Pittsburgh squad on the road – even one without its starting quarterback – would be a significant step.
Unbeaten streaks on the line: Duke (4-0), Mars Hill (5-0), Brevard (4-0) and Louisburg (5-0) represent the last of the undefeated teams in North Carolina college football. The four teams play at four different levels. Duke carries an eight-game win streak dating back to last November.
Homecoming at Elon: The Phoenix are still trying to stay in the FCS playoff picture. Wofford isn’t a CAA opponent but still represents a chance to bag an important resume building win.
Friday Night Lights: Multiple teams moved games to Friday to beat weather concerns. Friday scores: Johnson C. Smith 49, Shaw 6 … Belhaven 35, North Carolina Wesleyan 21 … LaGrange 35, Methodist 0.
