The Saturday schedule begins at noon with East Carolina visiting No. 13 Alabama on ABC and continues into the night across the FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III levels. Mars Hill at Winston-Salem State is the final kickoff at 8 p.m.

No. 13 Alabama was simply too much for East Carolina, building a 38-7 halftime lead and rolling to a 48-10 win. The Crimson Tide outgained the Pirates 487-162 and held ECU to just 2 rushing yards and five first downs.

Malachi Singleton completed 22 of 24 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns as App State piled up 647 yards in a 55-3 rout of Maine.

🚨 The Citadel stuns Charlotte in 3 OT
Charlotte suffered another scare against an FCS opponent — and this time didn’t escape. The Citadel pulled out a 43-41 triple-overtime victory, scoring on a two-point play in the third extra period and stopping Charlotte on its attempt. The 49ers are 3-2 in their last five games vs. FCS foes, with only one of the wins being comfortable.
Tulane at Duke — 3:30 p.m., ACC Network

🏃 Sheppard carries Duke past Tulane
Nate Sheppard rushed for a career-high 227 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries as Duke opened its season with a 17-3 win over Tulane, avenging last year’s defeat in New Orleans.

The highly anticipated Western Carolina at Campbell football game has been postponed until Sunday at 11 a.m. Lightning delayed the contest for two and a half hours, but then one set of stadium lights did not come back on once the storms passed. With night approaching, officials opted to shift the game until Sunday.
Gardner-Webb at Wofford — 1:30 p.m., ESPN+
FINAL Score: Wofford 17, Gardner-Webb 13
🐶 Gardner-Webb comes oh-so-close
Gardner-Webb appeared to score the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute, only to have the play erased by offsetting penalties. Wofford intercepted Cole Pennington two plays later to seal a 17-13 win in Pete Bennett’s debut as Gardner-Webb’s interim head coach.

🦅 NCCU clamps down on Elizabeth City State
Nelson Layne connected with Chance Peterson for a 74-yard touchdown to open the scoring, and NCCU’s defense did the rest in a 27-13 home-opening win over Elizabeth City State. The Eagles held the Vikings, a former CIAA rival, to just 145 total yards, including 39 on the ground.

🔥 Tarboro product helps Elon roll
True freshman and former Tarboro standout Kamerin McDowell-Moore rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns as Elon blanked Davidson 38-0. The Phoenix improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009 despite starting quarterback Brady Stober leaving the game with an injury in the second quarter; the extent of the injury was not immediately known.

🐻 Turnovers doom Lenoir-Rhyne
Lenoir-Rhyne piled up 449 yards, including 291 rushing, but five turnovers proved costly in a 34-23 loss to West Alabama. The Tigers returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and sealed the win with an 80-yard pick-six with 1:45 remaining.

Elizabeth City State stepped up to the FCS level and stayed within striking distance before falling 27-6 at former CIAA rival North Carolina Central. The Vikings were held to 145 total yards, including just 39 on the ground. Josef Manley provided the Vikes’ only points on an 8-yard touchdown run.
