De’Von Thomas, a standout running back from Rolesville High’s 2024 4A state runner-up team, is set to join Campbell University’s football program this fall. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound all-state selection announced his commitment late last week, earning high praise from his high school coach.
“They just got a whole steal,” Rolesville coach Ranier Rackley shared on Twitter/X.
Thomas leaves behind an impressive legacy at Rolesville, amassing nearly 5,000 rushing yards and 59 touchdowns over 50 varsity games. A workhorse for the Rams, he tallied 2,308 rushing yards and 25 scores as a junior before contributing 812 yards and 16 touchdowns during his senior campaign. He also added 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
A sought-after prospect, Thomas reported offers from several FBS programs, including East Carolina, Charlotte, Boston College, Liberty, and Troy, among others. His impressive 3.97 GPA also attracted interest from FCS schools like Elon, Gardner-Webb, Yale and Dartmouth.
Rolesville finished its 2024 season at 14-2, falling to Grimsley 35-23 in the 4A state championship game this past December. He made the HighSchoolOT.com all-state team after his banner junior campaign, which included rushing for 10.9 yards per carry and 164.9 yards per game.
Rolesville Teammate Marion Turner To Join Thomas in Buies Creek
Thomas won’t be the only Rolesville Ram heading to Campbell. Teammate Marion Turner, a versatile all-conference athlete, also announced his commitment to the Camels.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Turner made a significant impact on both sides of the ball during his senior season. Defensively, he recorded 51 tackles, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups. One of his biggest moments came in a September victory over Cardinal Gibbons, where he sealed the game with an overtime interception.
Offensively, Turner added 393 all-purpose yards, while on special teams, he averaged 44 yards per kickoff return and took one return to the house for a touchdown.
“I’m beyond excited to start this next chapter of my life as a Camel,” Turner posted on Twitter/X.
Turner also received an offer from Fayetteville State before committing to Campbell.
