North Carolina’s first known college football commitment from the Class of 2027 plays one of the sport’s most unsung — yet crucial — positions.
Sean Kraft, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound long snapper from Asheville Christian Academy, announced his commitment to Notre Dame football on June 24. The rising junior from Swannanoa is ranked the No. 1 2027 long snapper in the nation by Rubio Longsnapping, one of the top national training and evaluation services for specialists.
Kraft announced his college decision on social media June 24. He becomes coach Marcus Freeman’s first pledge for Notre Dame’s 2027 recruiting class.
“Sean Kraft crushed it at the last couple of Rubio Long Snapping camps. Kraft is a massive human being who could pass for a college athlete right now on looks alone. His form is gorgeous, and Kraft absolutely rips the ball back to the punter … He’s the type of Long Snapper who can snap for a long time.” – Rubio Longsnapping in a recent scouting report on Asheville Christian’s Sean Kraft.
Kraft also plays defensive end and tight end for Asheville Christian but has gained national attention as a snapper. He’s worked with Chris Rubio and Rubio Longsnapping since 2023 and has attended several of their high-profile events.
Notre Dame becomes the first program in our state to secure a 2027 commitment and did so by beating out in-state ACC schools. Both North Carolina and Wake Forest extended offers to Kraft earlier in June, joining Liberty (the first to offer in April) and Arkansas State.
The Fighting Irish already have three North Carolina players committed in the 2026 class: Rodney Dunham (Myers Park), Ebenezer Ewetade (South Garner), and Thomas Davis (Weddington).
