Charlotte Catholic, Providence Day football to be featured in ESPN high school showcase

Recruits who have committed to UNC, Michigan, Notre Dame get national audience

ESPNU will broadcast the upcoming Charlotte Catholic at Providence Day game on Sept. 1.

ESPN’s showcase of high school football this season will feature a game involving two Charlotte powerhouses.

The Charlotte Catholic at Providence Day contest on Friday, Sept. 1 will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU as part of the network’s nine-game GEICO High School Football Showcase. The contest kicks off at 7 p.m.

Providence Day is ranked No. 1 in the HighSchoolOT statewide Top 25 poll and the MaxPreps All North Carolina rankings this week. The Chargers won their opener 42-35 against Northwestern High from Rock Hill, S.C., in the inaugural Carolina Panthers’ Keep Pounding High School Classic this past Saturday.

Providence Day has multiple high-level recruits, including senior quarterback Jadyn Davis (Michigan commit), wide receivers Jordan Ship (North Carolina) and Channing Goodwin (Michigan), and offensive tackle David Sanders (a junior listed as the No. 1 or 2 recruit in his class nationally).

Charlotte Catholic, unranked in the HighSchoolOT statewide poll but listed 11th by MaxPreps, also is 1-0. The Cougars beat South Meck 49-16 on Friday. Charlotte Catholic tight end Jack Larsen has committed to Notre Dame. Nick Seggara is an Ohio verbal.

Providence Day beat Charlotte Catholic 21-20 a year ago.

The ESPN GEICO High School Football Showcase will feature nine games and run through Oct. 20. The Showcase also will feature teams from Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Nevada, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington DC.
