Quarterback Katin Houser threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns and added a short rushing score as East Carolina defeated Tulsa 41-27 in a four-hour Thursday night game in Greenville.
The Pirates, celebrating their annual Night of the Boneyard, took control early, jumping out to a 24-14 halftime lead behind two long touchdown connections from Houser to Anthony Smith covering 66 and 63 yards. Smith finished with 150 yards and two touchdowns on four catches.
Running back London Montgomery opened the second half with a 51-yard touchdown run to give ECU a 31-14 advantage. Tulsa rallied within 31-24 after a field goal and a short touchdown run, but ECU’s defense answered when Rion Roseborough sacked Baylor Hayes on fourth-and-15 near midfield. Houser later capped the drive with a 2-yard TD run to seal the win.
Marlon Gunn Jr. added 60 rushing yards and a score for the Pirates, who moved above .500 and improved to 2-1 in American Conference play. Montgomery led all rushers with 125 yards.
For Tulsa, Hayes completed 23 of 41 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, while Brody Foley caught six passes for 126 yards and a score. Former Gardner-Webb coach Tre Lamb’s Golden Hurricane fell to 0-4 in conference games.

📅 What It Means
- ECU climbs back above .500 (4-3) and stays within reach of the AAC’s top tier.
- The Pirates improved to 2-1 in league play, staying within reach of the four teams without a league loss (Navy, Memphis, Tulane and South Florida).
- Thursday marked ECU’s fourth Thursday-night game of the 2025 season. The Pirates went 2-2, beating Army and Tulsa while falling to NC State and Tulane.
