Wake Forest’s first two football commitments for its 2027 recruiting class have North Carolina high school ties. Providence Day wide receiver/kick returner Steele Fletcher and Oak Grove offensive lineman Charlie Reece both committed to the Demon Deacons earlier this month.

Fletcher is the son of former NFL linebacker London Fletcher, who won a Super Bowl with the Rams among other highlights.

The younger Fletcher won an NCISAA state championship with Providence Day last season, and will provide speed and explosiveness to Wake’s offense and special teams.

During Providence Day’s state title run, Fletcher made 37 catches for 434 yards and six touchdowns. He scored one touchdown on a kickoff return.

Fletcher is listed as a three-star prospect and the No. 36 player in North Carolina, per 247Sports. Other schools to offer include Maryland, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Charlotte, Jacksonville State, Kent State, Delaware State and Sacramento State. Per 247Sports, Fletcher has run a 11.62 in the 100 meters during track season.

“A goal of mine was to commit on my late mother’s birthday, and today I can say I did,” Fletcher posted on X when he pledged to the Deacs on Feb. 12. “I’m beyond blessed to announce my commitment to Wake Forest University!”

Reece helped pave the way for an Oak Grove team that won the Piedmont Triad 5A/6A Conference and finished 9-4 overall. 247Sports lists Reece as a three-star player and the No. 35 player in North Carolina for 2027.

Wake Forest offered the 6-5, 255-pounder in late January, and Reece picked the Demon Deacons over other recent offers from Liberty and Elon.

Reece already has a summer official visit lined up with Wake Forest for June.

East Surry 2026 TE Braxton Davis commits to Davidson

Braxton Davis, an all-conference tight end from East Surry High in Pilot Mountain, will join Davidson College’s program this fall. Davis committed to the Wildcats on Feb. 12, adding a versatile two-sport standout to the FCS program’s most recent high school recruiting class.

Davis, listed at 6-3, 235 pounds, caught 36 passes for 494 yards and 10 touchdowns for East Surry this past season. Those numbers rank among the best for tight ends in the state. The Cardinals finished 5-7.

Davis also plays on East Surry’s basketball team and has twice received all-conference recognition on the hardwood. He was recognized in January for scoring his 1,000th point. He logged 22 points in the second half of a recent game against West Stokes.

He has a 4.57 GPA in the classroom and reports an 80-inch wingspan, which could make him a formidable weapon in Davidson’s offense.

App State lands LB from Alabama 7A state runner-up

Tre’ Stone, a first-team all-region linebacker from Alabama’s Opelika High, has committed to Appalachian State. Stone is the second player to verbally commit to the Mountaineers’ 2027 high school class.

Opelika finished as the 7A state runner-up this past season. Stone finished with 70 tackles, including 42 solo stops, three tackles-for-loss, one interception and three pass breakups. Alabama Prep Varsity listed Stone among its top rising senior linebackers in the state.

Stone also reported Division I offers from Georgia State and Troy. Appalachian State has been involved since last summer, offering Stone in August 2025.

2027 North Carolina Commitments Starting to Take Shape

Recruiting is still in its early stages for many of North Carolina’s Class of 2027 prospects, but players are already beginning to come off the board. Ten of 247Sports’ top in-state players have announced commitments, with programs such as NC State, North Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest securing early pledges alongside national programs like Notre Dame, Ohio State and Nebraska.

NC Football News is tracking those commitments as they happen throughout the cycle.
