Elon and Campbell both added defensive talent to their 2027 recruiting classes this week, with the Phoenix securing a versatile Charlotte metro athlete and the Camels landing a Georgia cornerback who held a dozen FBS offers.
Myers Park standout Kameron Guy pledged to Elon after seeing his recruitment take off during the spring evaluation period. Christian Hayes (Thomasville, GA) announced his commitment to Campbell on Monday.
Stock Riser: Kameron Guy’s recruiting surges during spring
Kam Guy lists himself as a wide receiver/defensive back/athlete on his X profile page. The 6-1, 180-pound rising senior worked mostly at safety last fall for Myers Park.
He finished the 2025 season with five interceptions and returned a blocked kick for a long-distance touchdown. He added 33 tackles, including 24 solo stops. In 2024, Guy spent three games at quarterback, throwing two TD passes.
Guy saw his stock rise after his junior season, with multiple in-state programs taking notice and reaching out.
Charlotte was the first to offer in January. He then picked up offers from North Carolina A&T, Elon, North Carolina Central and Gardner-Webb. East Tennessee State, West Georgia, Richmond, Campbell, Charleston Southern and Furman extended offers in May and June.
Speedy defensive back Christian Hayes ready to run with Camels
Campbell has landed one of the more intriguing defensive back prospects in its 2027 recruiting class with Christian Hayes of Thomasville High in Georgia.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback chose Campbell over an offer list that included 12 FBS schools – Appalachian State, ECU, Troy, Air Force, Army, Navy, Coastal Carolina, Kennesaw State, Liberty, ODU, Toledo and Connecticut. Hayes picked up his Campbell offer in February before committing to the Camels on June 9.
Hayes brings both athleticism and academic credentials to Buies Creek. A 3.8 GPA student, he is also one of the fastest prospects in the 2027 class coming to North Carolina FCS football. Hayes ran the opening leg on Thomasville’s 4×100 relay team that captured a Georgia Class 1A Division I state championship with a time of 41.25 seconds.
It is notable that Hayes’ offer sheet includes Army, Navy and Air Force — three programs known for being especially selective during the recruiting process.
On the football field, Hayes recorded 30 tackles, an interception and six pass breakups as a junior. His combination of size, track speed and a deep offer sheet made him a sought-after prospect throughout the Southeast region and beyond.
It is still early in the 2027 recruiting process for our state’s FCS teams. But Elon and Campbell both have secured a couple of defensive pieces to build upon.
