🔍 What to Know About Wofford at Elon
Kamerin McDowell-Moore having breakout freshman season
Piling up rushing yards is nothing new for Elon freshman Kamerin McDowell-Moore, who finished his career at Tarboro with 6,360 yards and 96 touchdowns while helping the Vikings win two state championships.
He’s wasted little time making an impact at Elon. McDowell-Moore rushed for a career-high 273 yards and two touchdowns last week at New Hampshire, setting an Elon freshman record and posting the fourth-highest single-game rushing total in program history.
McDowell-Moore enters Saturday with 754 yards and six touchdowns on 111 carries. He ranks fifth nationally in the FCS in both rushing yards and rushing yards per game (125.7) and is the only freshman among the top five in either category.
Wofford’s big-play passing game comes alive
Wofford enters Saturday coming off its best passing performance of the season. Sophomore quarterback Ethan Drumm threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns in a 32-25 win over Furman, while Isaiah Scott caught seven passes for 193 yards and two scores.
The Terriers did much of their damage with explosive plays. Scott caught touchdown passes of 70 and 80 yards, while Ivory Aikens turned a short pass into a 71-yard touchdown. Wofford finished with a season-high 412 yards, including 308 through the air. Elon’s defense is allowing only 184.3 passing yards per game.
Banged-up Terriers finding ways to win
Wofford has dealt with enough injuries that coach Shawn Watson said after the Furman win that the Terriers are playing several players who began the season as third- and fourth-teamers on the depth chart. Wofford nevertheless snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over its longtime rival.
The Terriers raced to a 29-8 lead before Furman rallied, eventually forcing Wofford’s defense to protect a seven-point lead in the final minutes. The Paladins reached Wofford territory before the Terriers forced an incompletion on fourth-and-7 with 1:08 remaining.
