Johnson C. Smith has moved this week’s home football game against Shaw to Friday night to beat rainy weather that is expected in the area Saturday from Hurricane Isaias.

The CIAA contest between the Golden Bulls (4-1) and Bears (4-2) will now kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 at JCSU’s Irwin Belk Complex.

This is a pivotal matchup in the conference race. Johnson C. Smith, which beat Bluefield State 51-0 last Saturday, has jumped out to a 2-0 league record. Shaw is 2-2 against conference foes and will be looking to bounce back from last week’s 34-29 defeat at Bowie State.

So far, this is the only college game involving a North Carolina team that has moved off its original Saturday time slot due to weather concerns. Storms and rain have been a theme throughout the 2026 season, with lightning delays and schedule movement common across several weeks.
