Dudley WR Nas Newkirk picks Liberty over Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Three-star play-maker caught 16 TD passes a year ago for 3A semifinalists

One of Greensboro Dudley’s top play-makers has announced his college football plans.

Rising senior wide receiver Nas Newkirk has committed to Liberty University, 247Sports reported Saturday afternoon.

The 6-2, 190-pounder chose Liberty over Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Newkirk also had offers from Appalachian State, East Carolina and Charlotte in-state, as well as from FBS schools like Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Maryland and Kentucky among others.

Newkirk hauled in 1,123 receiving yards a year ago, helping Dudley reach the 3A West finals. He scored 16 touchdowns.

Liberty plays in Conference USA. The Flames had a banner 2023 season, winning 13 games and making the Fiesta Bowl before falling to Oregon. Jamey Chadwell is entering his second year as head coach.

Newkirk is listed as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the No. 18 player in the state of North Carolina.

“People are starting to notice the rise of Liberty football and I feel like I can be a key component to their future success,” Newkirk told 247Sports after announcing his commitment.

He’s also three-star from Rivals.com and On3.

Newkirk is the second Dudley player from the Class of 2025 to announce a college commitment. Teammate Koredell Bartley, a defensive back and wide receiver, pledged for South Florida in May.
