Running back Jaylen Solomon had an eye-catching stat sheet in Arendell Parrott Academy’s home football game Friday night.
Solomon rushed for 296 yards on 18 carries — an amazing 16.4 yards-per-attempt average — and found the end zone six times in a 60-22 win over Faith Christian. Solomon also hauled in one pass, which covered 28 yards and resulted in another touchdown.
Solomon, a senior, is coming off a 1,140-yard season for Parrott Academy, an eight-man football program located in Kinston. After two games, he is already more than a third of the way to that total.
APA opened its season on Aug. 10 against a tough Evangel Christian squad from Alabaster, Alabama, falling 38-19. In that game, Solomon managed 109 yards and one score, giving him 405 yards in 31 carries on the young season.

Parrott Academy was more than a one-man show in Friday’s win over its Rocky Mount opponent. Senior Luke Stocks rushed for 113 yards on 11 attempts, scoring once. As a team, Arendell Parrott Academy piled up 473 rushing yards.
Quarterback Chris Stimson made the most of his six pass attempts, completing four for 60 yards, including a 26-yard TD strike to Ben Barrett. Cole Watson made eight solo tackles.
APA led 38-8 at halftime and never looked back. The Patriots will play next on Aug. 29 at Halifax Academy. Parrott Academy competes in the NCISAA Big 8 Conference.
