The North Carolina college football schedule was spread out over four days this past weekend, giving us a football bonanza from Thursday through Sunday evening. The Week 2 slate is bigger than last week but mostly concentrated on one day.

NC State gets Week 2 started Friday night, Sept. 11, when the Wolfpack hosts Richmond at Carter-Finley Stadium. Then comes Saturday.

Twenty-six games involving North Carolina college football teams are scheduled for Sept. 12, with action stretching from noon until well into the night and across every level of the sport.

Among the highlights:

  • App State visits East Carolina for an in-state FBS matchup in Greenville.
  • Duke travels to Illinois for an early-season test against a Big Ten opponent.
  • Wake Forest visits Purdue in another ACC-Big Ten matchup.
  • North Carolina hosts East Tennessee State in Chapel Hill, aiming for a 2-0 start.
  • NC A&T and NC Central renew their century old rivalry in Durham.
  • Unbeaten Elon heads to Rhode Island to face the defending CAA champs.
  • Campbell visits Florida, Charlotte travels to Ole Miss and Western Carolina faces Cincinnati in three difficult road tests.
  • Catawba and Mars Hill meet in an early Division II matchup between North Carolina South Atlantic Conference programs.
  • Johnson C. Smith visits Winston-Salem State in a Saturday night CIAA rivalry showdown at Bowman-Gray.
  • Brevard is the last North Carolina team to start its season, hosting Sewanee, while Elizabeth City State is our lone school on a bye.
