- Committed to UNC on July 1, 2026. Originally committed to Cincinnati on May 2, 2026 before flipping his pledge to the Tar Heels after an official visit and NIL considerations
- 6-3, 190-pound wide receiver
- Three stars, the No. 16 player in Michigan and the No. 99 wide receiver nationally by 247Sports on July 2, 2026
- Junior season stats (2025): 37 catches, 490 yards, 4 TDs
- Sophomore season stats (2024): 19 catches, 283 yards, 3 TDs
- Reported more than 30 offers, with Auburn making a strong push during the summer of 2026.
- Ran track as a junior (spring 2026), posting times of 10.97 in the 100 meters and 22.42 in the 200 meters (247Sports).
June 22 Update: 4-Star WR Amare Patterson snubs USC, Georgia, Georgia Tech and LSU for UNC commitment
UNC’s 2027 recruiting class looks a lot stronger than it did two weeks ago. The Tar Heels received a pledge from the top wide receiver in South Carolina over the weekend, Amare Patterson from Bluffton High. He’s a four-star recruit from 247Sports and ranks in the top 175 nationally.
Patterson chose the Tar Heels over a lengthy offer list that included Georgia, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, LSU and Florida. His commitment gives UNC its first four-star pledge in the 2027 class and provides a significant recruiting victory for Bill Belichick’s staff, which only entered the picture in late May before quickly building momentum with the state’s top-ranked wide receiver prospect.
247Sports scouts called Patterson a “YAC monster” and noted his elite track speed. He made 51 catches for 912 yards and 10 TDs in 2025. Former Bluffton High teammate Carnell Warren joined the Tar Heels in 2025 and played a strong role in recruiting Patterson to Chapel Hill.
June 19 Update
One of UNC’s first commitments for its 2027 class has decommitted, per multiple reports. Wide receiver Skylar Robinson from West Hills, CA (Chaminade HS), had initially pledged to the Tar Heels in January 2025. Robinson is considered a three-star prospect from 247Sports and the No. 92 overall player from California for 2027.
June 12, 2026 Update
- Class ranking: The Tar Heels entered mid-June ranked No. 54 nationally by 247Sports.
- June surge: Seven of North Carolina’s 11 known commitments have arrived since June 1 as the Tar Heels gained momentum during official visit season.
- National footprint: UNC’s 2027 class currently includes prospects from 10 different states, led by Texas with three commitments.
- Building from the inside out: Four offensive linemen and three linebackers make up more than half of the current class.
- Quarterback in place: The Tar Heels found their QB for this call in Texas signal-caller Noah Spinks, who threw for 3,690 yards and 43 touchdowns as a junior.
- Still looking in-state: Despite 11 commitments, the Tar Heels have yet to secure a pledge from a North Carolina prospect in the 2027 cycle. UNC did have only one player from the state decommit back in April.
- Linebacker emphasis: Aaron Williams, Zykee Scott and Tasheem Butler give UNC three linebacker commitments with strong production at the high school level.
