⚡ Storylines To Follow Today

  • Offense. Offense and More Offense (and Even More): Both Western Carolina and North Carolina Central eclipse 700 yards of total offense today. The Catamounts and Eagles are scheduled to play each other in 2027 and 2028. Can we move one of these games up to this season?
  • Fly (and Run), Eagles Fly (and Run): North Carolina Central piles up 765 (!) total yards en route to its second-straight romp over NC A&T. Walker Harris passes for 380 yards and 3 TDs. Chris Mosley rushes for 168 yards and 3 more scores. NCCU, which scored 66 on the Aggies last season, has won four straight in the series.
  • Welcome Back: WCU quarterback Taron Dickens plays for the first time this season and makes up for lost time. His final stat line is a video game: 582 passing yards, 6 TDs. Catamounts score 29 points in third quarter to pull away.
  • Roll Humps, At Last: Nothing has been easy for Campbell this season. After narrow losses to Rhode Island and Furman, the Camels break through with a 2 OT thriller over Bryant. Kamden Sixkiller (perfect name for a QB) tosses five touchdown passes, while Randall King hauls in four of them.
  • Winless No More: Campbell and Davidson both bag first wins of the season. Wildcats get first win of the Saj Thakkar coaching era. Coulter Cleland throws 3 TDs. Mari Adams rushes for 2.
  • Delay of Game, Again: Elon can’t overcome a 2.5-hour weather delay this time, mustering just 293 yards of offense against one of the SoCon’s top teams.
  • Pesky Gardner-Webb Tests Ohio: Sieh Bangura and Duncan Brune each rush for 3 TDs, propelling the FBS Ohio Bobcats to a comeback win. Gardner-Webb, coached by Cris Reisert – who hails from Ohio – led 14-3 early and 21-17 in the second quarter.

✅ North Carolina FCS Wrap-Up

Biggest Win of the Day

Take your pick. NCCU blew up the stat sheets (again) and blew away (again) its biggest rival. Western Carolina joined the Eagles in the 700-yard total offense club in a romp over Samford. Campbell needed double OT and 50 points but got the win against Bryant at home. If you’re not following NC FCS action, you are missing out on exciting brands of football.

Standout Performance

When we saw what NCCU’s Walker Harris (380 passing yards, 3 TDs) and Chris Mosley (258 all-purpose yards, 5 TDs) did against NC A&T, we figured they would own this spot this week. Then we watched the end of WCU-Samford. Quarterback Taron Dickens, in his first action of the season, completed 35-of-46 passes for a career-high 582 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Catamounts needed every yard and score in a shootout win in Cullowhee. Tip of the cap to Campbell QB Kamden Sixkiller (5 TD throws) and WR Randall King (4 TD receptions). Big day for stat-stuffing FCS football in our state.

Biggest Upset

We didn’t really see an upset today. But Campbell, Davidson and Western Carolina all get to celebrate getting rid of the goose egg in the win column. Maybe multiple statisticians were upset at having to do so much work logging amazing performances by WCU, NCCU and Campbell offenses.
