NC Recruiting Report: In-state DL Amir Moore picks NC State; UNC adds multiple commits

Harrells Christian DL Amir Moore becomes NCSU’s fourth 2027 commit from North Carolina

Amir Moore, defensive lineman for Harrells Christian Academy, announces his college commitment to NC State.
NC State picked up its fourth in-state commitment from the class of 2027 when Amir Moore, a defensive lineman from Harrells Christian Academy, pledged to the Wolfpack.

A busy week on the recruiting trail continued to bear fruit as NC State, North Carolina and Duke each added commitments to their 2027 classes.

NC State landed one of North Carolina’s top defensive line prospects, Harrells Christian defensive lineman Amir Moore. UNC continued a recent recruiting surge with four pledges in three days. Duke added its 17th commitment while maintaining the state’s highest-ranked class at the national level.

NC State: Amir Moore picks Wolfpack ahead of official visit

NC State football added its fourth in-state 2027 commitment on June 10 when Harrells Christian defensive lineman Amir Moore pledged to the Pack.

NCSU won a fierce recruiting battle for the 6-7, 265-pound rising senior. Moore picked the Wolfpack from among 20 Division I offers, including rival UNC, Michigan State, Florida, Ole Miss and Kentucky also in the running. He made his commitment ahead of an official visit set for this weekend.

Moore is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports and is listed as the No. 36 ranked player in North Carolina for the 2027 class.

His junior campaign featured 44 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 sacks and nine quarterback hurries. Moore also contributed on the basketball court for Harrells Christian this past season, averaging 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

“I always had a great relationship with coach (Elisha) Shaw and we talked almost every day,” Moore told 247Sports after his commitment. “And something just felt special about the school. I have an official visit this weekend and I’ve visited before and I felt like it was right for me. It’s a feeling of relief. Now, I can just focus on my senior season.”

Moore’s commitment gives NC State 14 pledges for its growing 2027 class. As of June 10, no other school has more commitments from North Carolina high school prospects than the Wolfpack (4). 247Sports ranks NCSU’s overall class 37th nationally, trailing only Duke among in-state schools.

What It Means: NCSU coach Dave Doeren has prioritized the trenches so far with this class and continues to show his ability to keep in-state prospects home. The Wolfpack has commits thus far from two defensive linemen, one edge rusher, three offensive linemen and two tight ends.

UNC football recruiting picking up steam

North Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class has doubled in size over the past week. The Tar Heels and coach Bill Belichick added three more commits from June 8-10, landing offensive lineman Neal Roberts (Mississippi), and linebackers Aaron Williams (Texas) and Zykee Scott (Pennsylvania).

That trio – combined with the recent additions of quarterback Noah Spinks from Texas and offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon from Georgia – gives UNC a total of 10 commits for its 2027 class.

Belichick and staff have definitely embraced a national approach to their high school efforts. The commitment list includes players from Texas (3), California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Georgia, Arkansas and New Jersey. The 2027 class still lacks an in-state commitment.

Williams is the most highly regarded among North Carolina’s most recent commitments. 247Sports rates him a three-star prospect and the No. 75 player in the talent-rich state of Texas.

UNC outdueled Utah and Mississippi State for Williams’ pledge. Other schools to offer included Duke, Virginia Tech and Pitt from the ACC as well as Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and others.

Duke’s 2027 class grows with addition of 17th commitment

Like UNC, Duke also has spread its recruiting net far and wide. The Blue Devils received their 17th commitment for the 2027 class on June 9, adding cornerback Elijah Burns-Crump of Louisville, KY.

Burns-Crump intercepted four passes and recorded 56 tackles for 6A state champion Trinity High in 2025.

Duke and head coach Manny Diaz now have commits from Georgia (3), Tennessee (2), Texas (2), Alabama, California, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, New Jersey and Florida in addition to three pledges from North Carolina players.

247Sports ranked Duke’s 2027 class as 28th best nationally.
