🔍 What to Watch
After executing one of the most seamless transitions to FBS of any college program, things have been more lean for App State in recent years. Last season brought a disappointing 5-8 finish, and coach Dowell Loggains has thoroughly reset the roster in response.
This will be the first unveiling of the new-look Mountaineers, and fans will be eager to see if the program is turning the corner back toward competitiveness in the league – or if this is a more permanent challenge in the NIL/transfer portal era.
App State was picked to finish sixth out of seven teams in the Sun Belt East in the preseason.
Maine, meanwhile, was voted seventh out of 13 teams in the CAA by league coaches. The Black Bears posted a 6-6 record a year ago. Maine will have played a game – facing Towson in its season opener Aug. 27 – while this will be App State’s 2026 debut.
