The UNC Tar Heels landed their first commitment of the 2028 football recruiting cycle – a quarterback from a prominent in-state high school program.
Marvin Ridge quarterback Levi Kerr announced his pledge to Bill Belichick and North Carolina on Sunday after attending Saturday night’s game against Miami in Kenan Stadium.
Kerr is a four-star prospect according to 247Sports and Rivals. He just guided Marvin Ridge in Waxhaw to a 9-1 regular season record, throwing for 1,773 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. Marvin Ridge will be the No. 6 seed from the West in the upcoming 7A playoffs.
Kerr has made multiple trips to UNC. He also held offers from eight other FBS schools per his social media and 247Sports: NC State, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Michigan, Maryland, Mississippi State and Coastal Carolina. North Carolina offered back in the spring.
“I have always loved UNC,” Kerr told 247Sports in an October interview. “I went to a bunch of games when I was younger. A lot of my friends go there now.”
North Carolina does not have a commitment from an in-state player so far in its 2027 recruiting class. But the Tar Heels now begin their 2028 lineup with one of the state’s top overall prospects.
The Heels have done well in recent years in landing top-level in-state quarterbacks, including standouts Drake Maye and Sam Howell, who are both playing in the NFL currently.
Kerr is the second 2028 quarterback to announce a college commitment from the state, joining Lake Norman’s Kaden Craft, who has pledged to Tennessee.
