Charlotte added one of North Carolina’s most productive high school defenders to its 2027 recruiting class Wednesday night when Reidsville standout Kadence Pruitt announced his commitment during a ceremony at his high school.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end chose the 49ers over more than two dozen scholarship offers, including finalists Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Marshall and Old Dominion.

Pruitt arrives on Charlotte’s commitment list after putting together one of the state’s most decorated resumes, on the field and off.

A two-time football state champion at Reidsville, he has totaled 237 tackles, 49 tackles for loss and 18 sacks over the past two seasons while earning all-state, all-conference and all-area honors. He was also named Reidsville’s Defensive MVP after helping lead the Rams to the 2025 NCHSAA 4A state championship.

Pruitt delivered one of his best performances on North Carolina’s biggest stage, recording 10 tackles and five quarterback hurries in Reidsville’s 2025 state championship victory over Brevard. He was a starter when Reidsville won the 2A state championship during his freshman year in 2023.

Off the field, Pruitt has been just as accomplished. He has served as his class president since his freshman year, carries a 4.2 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and is taking classes at Rockingham Community College. He is on pace to graduate in December, giving him the opportunity to enroll early at Charlotte.

A standout multi-sport athlete, Pruitt placed third in the 215-pound weight class at the 2026 NCHSAA 4A wrestling championships this past winter and also competes for Reidsville’s track and field team in the shot put.

Pruitt is the fourth North Carolina high school player to commit to Charlotte for 2027. The 49ers now have 13 total commits, as of July 9. 247Sports currently ranks Charlotte’s class 86th nationally.

Pruitt is the second Reidsville rising senior to announce college plans. Quarterback Tyson Broadway pledged to North Carolina A&T back in May.
