North Carolina will be the epicenter of quite a bit of college football today. Of the 23 games on the docket involving a team from the Old North State, 17 will take place in stadiums within our borders.
All seven of North Carolina’s FCS teams will play in-state today. So, too, will all 13 (!) of North Carolina’s Division II programs.
Seven North Carolina college football games today will involve an in-state clash, with five of those contests directly affecting conference standings:
- Charlotte at Appalachian State
- North Carolina A&T at Campbell (CAA)
- North Carolina Central at Gardner-Webb
- Fayetteville State at Johnson C. Smith (CIAA)
- Barton at Chowan (Conference Carolinas)
- Mars Hill at Lenoir-Rhyne (South Atlantic)
- Winston-Salem State at Livingstone (CIAA)
UNC and NC State will leave their home state for key games against Power 4 opponents. Duke will begin its ACC title defense with a homecoming game against a cross-country league foe.

👀 What to Know
- A big day on home turf: North Carolina teams are involved in 22 games on the schedule below, with 16 taking place at venues across the state. Seven games feature two NC programs going head-to-head.
- Power-conference road tests: UNC visits Clemson at noon, while NC State travels to Vanderbilt 45 minutes later. Duke begins its ACC title defense at home against Stanford at 4 p.m.
- An in-state FBS showdown: Charlotte heads to Boone to face unbeaten Appalachian State at 6 p.m. The Mountaineers are seeking a 3-0 start, while the 49ers are looking for their first victory.
- FCS teams stay close to home: All seven of North Carolina’s FCS programs play in-state. The slate includes a pair of in-state clashes, NC A&T at Campbell and NC Central at Gardner-Webb, both kicking off at 6 p.m.
