On the same day as its spring game, Duke football picked up a 2026 quarterback commitment. Terry Walker III, a three-star signal caller from Indianapolis, pledged for the Blue Devils on Saturday.

Walker chose Duke over ACC rival Virginia. He also held offers from Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Ball State, Miami (OH) and Bowling Green.

247Sports ranks Walker as the 11th best prospect in the state of Indiana and the top quarterback. Rivals.com, meanwhile, ranks him even higher at sixth overall in the state and also the No. 1 quarterback.

The 6-4, 185-pounder completed 95-of-205 passes for 1,467 yards and 17 touchdowns for Lawrence Central in 2024. He also rushed for 377 yards and four TDs.

Walker, who has transferred to a different high school in preparation for his senior season (Hamilton Southeastern), has compiled 2,685 career passing yards at the varsity level, with 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Walker did his due diligence during the recruiting process. He took three visits to Duke and five to Virginia before making his choice, per a recent story from the Indianapolis Star.

“Really outside of football, all the other aspects of being a student-athlete at each school is what I was looking for,” Walker told the Indy Star. “After doing all of that and adding in the football piece, both schools were really great. But after putting two and two together, I’m going to Duke. Both are great academic institutions.”

Walker boasts a 4.17 GPA. He is the fifth commitment to Duke’s 2026 class and the first offensive skill player. The Blue Devils are coming off a 9-4 season in coach Manny Diaz’s debut, which included wins over all three in-state ACC rivals and the best record among the Old North State’s seven FBS programs.

“I feel like their offense is a little more quarterback-friendly,” Walker told the Indianapolis Star. “I felt like it fit me more. I’ve been able to watch film and see how much trust they have in the quarterback, and coach Brewer has had a lot of success with quarterbacks. I feel like I’ll go into a good situation there and right now they only have three quarterbacks on the roster. Not a lot of schools only have three.”

Duke added four-star transfer quarterback Darian Mensah from Tulane to the roster during the off-season. Mensah is a rising redshirt sophomore and one of the top portal QBs in this cycle. Rising redshirt junior Henry Belin IV is set to return this fall, and the Blue Devils signed Dan Mahan from (Burlington) Williams High as part of its 2025 high school class.
