Appalachian State has made a tweak to its 2026 football schedule, adding a home matchup with Maine while removing a previously scheduled game against South Carolina State, per reporting from Maine University and FBSchedules.com.
The Mountaineers will host the Maine Black Bears on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone. It marks the third-ever meeting between the programs—and the third to be played in Boone. Maine has won both previous matchups, knocking off App State 14-13 in the 2002 FCS Playoffs and 34-12 in 2011, also in the postseason.
App State has since made the jump to FBS and the Sun Belt Conference, while Maine remains an FCS member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), competing in a league with North Carolina teams like Campbell, Elon and North Carolina A&T.
With the swap, the Mountaineers’ 2026 non-conference slate now looks like this:
- Sept. 5 – vs. Maine
- Sept. 12 – at East Carolina
- Sept. 19 – vs. Charlotte
- Sept. 26 – at NC State
It’s not yet clear whether the South Carolina State matchup will be rescheduled for a future season or canceled, per FBSchedules.com.
