MURFREESBORO – Chowan football struggled to get its offense going on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon, losing 31-3 to nationally ranked Benedict.
The Hawks dropped to 0-4 on the season. Benedict, which has been ranked as high as No. 13 in national Division II football polls, improved to 4-0.
Chowan managed just 104 yards of offense, a season low. Jose Colunga recorded the only Hawks’ points, hitting a 28-yard field goal.
Nic Wilson picked off a pass for the Hawks. Evan McGhee had nine tackles. Abdural Lee and Dwayne Smith added eight stops apiece. Jayshaun Alston forced a fumble and made two tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Patric Talbot recorded a 38.8-yard average on punts.
