Touted Tennessee prep RB opts to run with Davidson

Class of 2025 commit Price Davis brings ‘nice combo of athleticism, size and speed’

Price Davis, a senior running back from Maryville (Tenn.), announced his intentions to play for Davidson in 2025 with a social media post on July 10.

Davidson College has featured one of the top ground attacks in all of FCS football under coach Scott Abell in recent seasons.

The Wildcats’ future run game got a boost with the commitment of Maryville High (Tenn.) standout Price Davis. The 6-0, 196-pound running back, a rising senior at Maryville, made his commitment announcement for Davidson on social media July 10.

He is listed as the No. 8 running back by Tennessee’s Prep Redzone rankings – and the No. 70 prospect in the state overall.

“Davidson gains a steal here w/ Davis,” Prep Redzone scout Chris Smith posted on Twitter/X. “Davis brings a nice combo of athleticism, size & speed to the field. Possibly the top pass-catching RB from our Sr class.”

Davis rushed for 1,007 yards on 179 attempts for the Maryville Rebels in 2023 and found the end zone 10 times. He caught 15 passes for another 155 yards and three more scores. Davis, who lists his GPA at 4.01, earned all-region honors in the 6A classification.

“Davis is a well-balanced ball player that brings a versatile skill set to the backfield,” Prep Redzone wrote in a recent assessment. “… That versatility might have moved up some recruiting boards. Davidson and Valparaiso offered recently, and they won’t be the last. Look for a breakout season this fall for Davis where I think he can boost his stock.”

Davidson led FCS in rushing yards per game a year ago, grinding out 3,396 yards and 40 touchdowns over 11 contests — the only team to average better than 300 ypg. The Wildcats return their top two ground gainers from a year ago, juniors Mari Adams (1,019 yards) and Mason Sheron (949 yards). Adams was 15th nationally in total rushing yards, while Sheron was 24th.
