A key member of Reidsville’s 2A state championship football team will continue his academic and athletic career at Air Force in 2025.
Rising senior running back Jariel Cobb, who galloped for 145 yards in the Rams’ 28-18 win over Clinton in the 2A title game last December, became the second North Carolina player to commit to Air Force this month.
He joins Cleveland High defensive back Ronalon Renwick, who announced his pledge to join the Falcons of the Mountain West Conference over the weekend.
Cobb (5-10, 185) finished with 1,213 rushing yards and 17 rushing TDs last season, per MaxPreps.com stats. He enjoyed five 100-yard games and averaged 7.9 yards per carry. Cobb has nearly 1,500 rushing yards in his Reidsville varsity career.
The speedster reportedly clocked a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash at a camp earlier this summer. He reports a GPA of nearly the same number: 4.20.
Per social media, Cobb had at least a dozen offers, including Appalachian State, Marshall, Navy, North Carolina Central and Gardner-Webb. Ivy League offers included Dartmouth and Cornell.
Air Force currently has three players with North Carolina hometowns on its 2024 preseason roster: senior outside linebacker Elijah Sanders (Clayton | Clayton HS), junior offensive tackle Trevor Tate (Waxhaw | Cuthbertson HS) and sophomore linebacker David Santiago (Raleigh | Clayton HS).
