Johnson C. Smith has the best win-loss record in the state of North Carolina right now, vaulting out to a 6-0 start.
Wideout Brevin Caldwell is a big reason why things have been humming for the Charlotte CIAA program. The junior receiver leads the Old North State in receiving yards after week six and currently ranks No. 1 among all Division II players in the nation.
Caldwell has caught 44 passes — also the most in the state — for 651 yards. He has snagged 7 touchdowns, another category where he holds the statewide lead.
Only one other wideout in North Carolina has more than 600 yards in receptions. Christian Drumgoole of D3 North Carolina Wesleyan has made 40 grabs for 628 yards in the Battling Bishop’s first five games.
Campbell’s Sincere Brown is the Old North State’s top FCS receiver in terms of total yards and third among all players. Brown has 31 catches for 524 yards.
Appalachian State’s Kaedin Robinson leads the FBS ranks with 32 receptions for 469 yards. He’s fourth overall in the state. Duke’s Jordan Moore ranks fifth among NC players, making 30 catches in six games for 443 yards.
Brevard’s Zackary Orr is sixth overall among North Carolina players with 413 yards on 19 catches. The Tornados have played just three games thus far, with two early bye weeks and one missed game due to the hurricane. Orr leads the state in yards-per-game (137.7). Drumgoole is second in yards-per-game (125.6).
Caldwell and Shaw’s Ah’shaan Belcher are tied on the state leaderboard in touchdown receptions with seven each. Drumgoole and UNC Pembroke’s Josiah Hayes both have six TD receptions.
