UNC Football Schedule 2025: How Many Wins For Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels?

Early sportsbook odds peg North Carolina’s win total at 6.5 to 7.5 for Belichick’s first year in Chapel Hill.

How satisfied will UNC football fans be if Bill Belichick’s first season in Chapel Hill ends with just six or seven wins?

Sportsbooks have already begun setting odds for the 2025 North Carolina football team, and the early assessments have the Tar Heels firmly planted back in mediocre territory — just on the fringe of making a bowl.

While many books wait until after the national championship game to post win-total odds for the following season, multiple outlets couldn’t resist getting into the action with the Tar Heels now following their high-profile hire of Belichick.

DraftKings set the initial UNC football win total at 6.5. FanDuel went higher, opening its total at 7.5. Bettors can wager on whether UNC will exceed or fall short of these win totals, with payouts adjusting as the odds shift.

Betting expert Kris Johnson of Sporting News suggests optimism for UNC, writing, “We lean toward playing FanDuel’s OVER 7.5 wins” in a column published Friday.

North Carolina finished the 2024 regular season at 6-6 (3-5 ACC). Mack Brown was dismissed before the finale against NC State. Belichick was named head coach this past Wednesday and was introduced in a press conference Thursday.

In most cases, UNC went “under” the total set by various oddsmakers before the season. BetMGM Sportsbook for example set the Tar Heels over/under at 7.5 back in August. If you bet the under, you won.

North Carolina finished 2-9-1 this season in games against the point spread.

The Heels will play UConn in the Fenway Bowl in Boston on Dec. 28. Belichick will not coach in that game.

We already know the complete UNC football schedule for 2025, though dates for conference games are still TBA. The ACC slate appears favorable at first glance: No SMU. No Florida State. No Miami. No Louisville. Clemson and Duke at home.

TCU and Richmond will visit Chapel Hill in non-conference action, while the Heels will go to Charlotte and Central Florida. TCU posted an 8-4 record in the expanded Big 12. Richmond went 10-3 in FCS action, winning the CAA with a perfect 8-0 mark. Charlotte and UCF had losing records and will debut new coaches in 2025.

The Belichick hire could be a boon for season ticket sales of opposing teams. Charlotte and UCF already have been promoting home games against Belichick and the Heels on social media.
