App State Recruiting: Mountaineers Add 4 Commitments, Remain No. 1 in Sun Belt Rankings

Biggest addition: Florida RB Arwin Jackson, who had multiple Power 4 offers

Appalachian State football and coach Dowell Loggains added four commitments over the weekend, strengthening a 2027 recruiting class that currently ranks No. 1 in the Sun Belt Conference and No. 71 nationally, according to 247Sports.

The latest additions include Florida running back Arwin Jackson, Georgia defensive back Brexton Bell and South Carolina wide receiver Kyson McLeod, who all pledged on Sunday, June 14. Florida cornerback Zion Davis announced his commitment on Saturday, June 13.

Together, the group adds to a class that already stretches across eight states and appears built around athleticism, size and proven production at the high school level.

Jackson headlines the newest group. The Miami-area running back rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season at Florida powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna and chose Appalachian State over an offer list that included Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Kentucky, Illinois and several other Power Four programs.

Jackson joins Arkansas prep standout JoJo Accelus, who rushed for 2,371 yards and 24 touchdowns as a junior, giving the Mountaineers two productive running backs in the current class.

Quarterback Ben Musser remains one of the foundation pieces of the class. The former Virginia Tech commitment has accounted for more than 4,800 total yards over the past two seasons and held offers from programs including Purdue, Nebraska and Virginia Tech before choosing App State.

The Mountaineers have also recruited well on the perimeter. Receivers Jok Harris of Florida and McLeod of South Carolina both topped 650 receiving yards last season, while South Carolina safety Jamar Grissett intercepted seven passes in 2025. Florida cornerback Zion Davis and Georgia defensive back Bell add further athleticism to a secondary group that already features multiple ball-hawking defenders.

Perhaps most notable is the geographic footprint of the class. Only one current commitment — Lake Norman offensive lineman Sammy Wooten — comes from North Carolina. The remainder hail from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Pennsylvania and beyond, reflecting Appalachian State’s recruiting reach throughout the Southeast.

While signing day remains months away, the Mountaineers remain in position to lead Sun Belt recruiting for another year.
