We here at North Carolina Football News headquarters love to scour box scores, hoping to uncover names, numbers and nuggets that tell the story of the college game in our state.
Here’s something unique we found as we looked through Saturday’s stat sheets: It was a great day for players named Sincere (or the variation, Sincyr).
Three players with that intriguing first name got their monikers into the headlines for outstanding plays and performances. A recap and a sincere salute to three Week 9 standouts:
Sincere Brown | WR | Campbell
The redshirt senior from Charleston, S.C. (First Baptist School/South Florida) caught touchdown passes of 64 and 53 yards in the Camels’ 21-7 win over North Carolina A&T. For the game, Brown hauled in five passes for 150 total yards, an average of 30.0 yards per reception and one of the best receiving performances in our state in week nine.
For the season, Brown has 42 catches for 754 yards and eight TDs.
Sincere Baines | RB | UNC Pembroke
The sophomore from Fayetteville (Jack Britt HS) had his best statistical performance of the season.
The 2023 Mountain East Freshman of the Year rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries in the Braves’ 62-17 trouncing of West Virginia State. His longest TD covered 61 yards.
Baines also caught two passes for 43 yards and scored on a 32-yard pass play from Colin Johnson.
Sincyr Williams | DB | Shaw Bears
The redshirt freshman from Newport News, Va., scored an important touchdown in the Bears’ 38-35 comeback win over Fayetteville State.
Shaw had just turned the ball over on downs at the FSU Bears in the third quarter, trailing 21-17. A few plays later, Keshaun Denham jarred the ball loose from an FSU rusher near the goal-line, and Williams picked it up and carried it into the end zone.
Williams finished the game with two tackles.
